Press Release 2013

PETALING JAYA, 19 November 2005Malaysian Buddhist Co-operative Society Limited (MBCS) is putting together a fundraising dinner for the purpose of establishing a home dedicated to help the sick and incurably ill of all age and families. We strongly feel the need to establish a fearless and compassionate communication with the community about the physical and emotional journey of death and dying.

MBCS operates mainly through public funding and there is an urgent growing need to meet that demand. We hope to bring together approximately RM80 000 through the fundraising dinner by the end of 2005. The funds will be used primarily to acquire a home for the development of our operations. Further and additional ongoing fundraising projects will be carried out in the future to see that our services will run smoothly and progressively. The fundraising dinner will be held on the 17th of December at Perdana Ballroom, Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort, Jalan 3/155B Bukit Jalil, 57000, Kuala Lumpur. It will give us the opportunity to share with many Buddhists and non-Buddhist alike to understand the virtue in bringing peace to the mind of the dying.

Death and dying can be a beautiful experience for everyone. When we walk with the departing towards a peaceful crossing it becomes an extraordinary journey. Perhaps our purpose is reflected best in the words of Sogyal Rinponche in his book, The Tibetan book of Living and Dying.

One of the things I hope for... is that doctors all over the world will take extremely seriously the need to allow the dying person to die in silence and serenity... to find ways to make the very difficult transition of death as easy, painless, and peaceful as possible. Peaceful death is really an essential human right, more essential perhaps even than the right to vote or the right to justice; it is a right on which, all religious traditions tell us, a great deal depends for the well-being and spiritual future of the dying person. There is no greater gift of charity you can give than helping a person to die well.

We would like to invite you to step forward and support this effort in any way you see possible. If you find this project is something you can help out in, our event coordinator Linda Ling will be most happy to hear from you.
