Bereavement Educators (Funeral Industry)

1)      Internship Summary / Nature of Work:

 

(i)                  Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

 

                                                               i.      Face-to-face interview with MBCS members:

-     to gather feedback on how to improve MBCS current funeral services

-    To collect information of bereaved profile with questions like:

a.       How the deceased practice Buddhism when (s)he is still alive?

b.      What can you remember most about the deceased?

c.       What legacy did the deceased leave for other family members?

-    to educate members on the importance of MBCS funeral prepaid insurance

-    to teach members how to use the www.buddhistspace.com website

 

                                                             ii.      Create online memorial profiles for MBCS member’s departed loved ones in www.buddhistspace.com:

-    Write the story of the deceased in chronological (history timeline) or functional (list of achievement/events) format

-    Compile an archive of photos, videos and written materials related to the deceased to produce an e-memorial book

-    Invite deceased friends and relatives to perform the monthly memorial dana in MBCS office

 

(ii)                Indoor / Office Based

 

2)      Training provided: Yes (if requested)


3)      What will the interns learn from these duties? Or how will the interns benefit from this internship?

 

(i)                  Empathetic listening skills – discussing a very personal topic with others over the phone

(ii)                Communication skills – educating members on the importance of MBCS services

(iii)               IT skills – helping the webmaster to develop relevant content for buddhistspace.com

(iv)              Practical research and planning skills – analysing the funeral industry’s current and future market offerings

(v)            Leadership skills –coaching MBCS members to memorialise their deceased with an online profile 

 

 

4)      Required Academic Qualifications (CGPA, Year) [BPsych/ADP]:

(i)                  Those who are interested in Volunteer/Charity/Non-profit work or Methods in Human Services work

(ii)                Those who have an interest in IT, online marketing or education or funeral

(iii)               Those who are currently studying towards BPsych

(iv)              Those who have obtained BPsych

 

5)      Number of positions available: 2

 

6)      Will an interview be done by the organisation (Process of Selection)? Yes


7)      Time Commitment (average number of hours the intern should work) :

Spend at least a minimum of 20 hours allocated based on intern’s availability
